Troubleshooting
Quick answers to the most common questions. If your issue isn’t here, email nospam@edcaspersen.com with a short description and what device and iOS version you’re on.
There’s no sound or music
- Check that your device isn’t in silent mode. Flip the physical mute switch on the side of your iPhone, or check the silent toggle in Control Center.
- Make sure the volume is up. Tessance uses the media audio channel.
- In Settings → Audio and Haptics, confirm Music is on and that the Music and Sound Effects volume sliders are not at zero.
- If you connected a Bluetooth speaker or headphones, confirm they’re connected and playing audio from other apps.
I can’t feel any haptics
- Open Settings → Audio and Haptics and confirm Haptics is on.
- Check that haptics are enabled system-wide in iOS Settings → Sounds & Haptics.
- Silent mode and some Focus profiles can suppress system haptics on newer iPhones.
I can’t tell the lens values apart
Tessance can show each lens’s value more than one way. Open Settings → Representation and choose what suits you:
- Numbers or Color and Numbers reads the value as a number, independent of color.
- Notches shows the value as notches around the lens, so it never relies on color at all.
If the whole interface is hard to read, try Settings → Appearance and switch between Light and Dark.
A move did nothing
That is usually the rules working, not a bug. Light is only moved, never created or destroyed:
- In Pressure, a move is refused when there is nothing to give (an empty donor) or no room to receive (a full neighbour). Nothing beyond the tapped lens’s neighbours ever moves.
- In Orbit, a lens with nothing on its orbit has nothing to send.
If a move is refused, look for a full or empty lens next to the one you tapped, or try the inverted direction (long-press, or the direction control).
I’m out of hints
You hold up to three hints, shared across the whole game, and an empty slot refills on its own over time (about every half hour), whether or not the app is open. If you have none right now, come back a little later and one will have returned.
My progress isn’t on my other device
Tessance syncs your progress through your own iCloud, using Apple’s iCloud key-value storage.
- Confirm both devices are signed in to the same Apple ID / iCloud account.
- Sync happens quietly in the background and can take a moment, especially right after a change or on cellular. Reopening the app on the other device usually prompts it to catch up.
- If a device is signed out of iCloud, Tessance still works but saves only on that device.
- Your Full Enrollment purchase is separate: it is tied to your Apple ID and roams automatically. Use Settings → Restore Purchases if a new device doesn’t pick it up right away.
I bought Full Enrollment but it isn’t showing
- Make sure you’re signed in to the same Apple ID you purchased with.
- Open Settings → Restore Purchases. This re-applies a previous purchase and never charges you again.
- If you just purchased and it still shows locked, give it a moment and reopen the app. The App Store can take a few seconds to confirm.
The purchase button does nothing
This usually means the store could not load the product. Check your internet connection and try again. If it keeps failing, wait a bit and retry, or restart the app.
Can I reset my progress?
Not yet. There is no way to clear your curriculum from inside Tessance, and deleting the app will not do it either: your progress is mirrored in iCloud and returns when you reinstall. A reset is planned for a future update.
The app crashes or freezes
- Force-quit the app and relaunch.
- Make sure iOS is up to date.
- If it persists, uninstall and reinstall, then restore your purchase. If iCloud sync is on, your progress returns on first launch.
Feature requests and bugs

- What you expected to happen
- What actually happened
- Device model and iOS version (iOS Settings → General → About)
- Which discipline, concept, and study you were on
Short, specific reports are much easier to act on than vague ones. Screenshots and a screen recording help a lot.
