Troubleshooting

Quick answers to the most common questions. If your issue isn’t here, email nospam@edcaspersen.com with a short description and what device and iOS version you’re on.

There’s no sound or music

  1. Check that your device isn’t in silent mode. Flip the physical mute switch on the side of your iPhone, or check the silent toggle in Control Center.
  2. Make sure the volume is up. Loomstone uses the media audio channel.
  3. In Settings → Audio and haptics, confirm Music is on and that the Music and Effects volume sliders are not at zero.
  4. If you connected a Bluetooth speaker or headphones, confirm they’re connected and playing audio from other apps.

I can’t feel any haptics

  1. Open Settings → Audio and haptics and confirm Haptics is not set to Off. Medium and Strong are the most reliably felt.
  2. Check that haptics are enabled system-wide in iOS Settings → Sounds & Haptics.
  3. Silent mode and some Focus profiles can suppress system haptics on newer iPhones.

I ran out of moves and the puzzle restarted

That’s the move budget working as designed. Every puzzle gives you a set number of turns, derived from its ideal solution and widened by difficulty. Run out before the pattern is whole and the carving restarts.

If it’s happening more than you’d like, drop to a gentler tier. Novice gives a generous margin; Master gives you the exact optimum with no room for a single wasted turn. Remember that press and hold turns a tile the other way, which saves three taps whenever a tile sits one turn short.

A stone will not turn, or turns another stone with it

Both are carved mechanics of the harder tiers, not bugs:

  • A stone with a bolt in each corner is locked in place at its correct orientation. It nudges when tapped but never turns; the pattern forms around it.
  • A stone with a plus-shaped crossing carries two strands through one tile. Its connections read the same at every turn, so turning it changes nothing and costs nothing.
  • Two stones wearing a matching diamond rune are bound: turning either turns both, the same way, in one move. That is the puzzle, plan for the pair.

A board size or difficulty shows a lock

Locked sizes and tiers need the one-time Full Loom unlock. They stay visible in the selectors on purpose, so you can see the full game. The free tier includes a real selection of Loop, Path, and Loom boards; see the free board table in the User Guide.

Ascent is a Full Loom mode in its entirety.

I bought Full Loom but it isn’t showing

  1. Make sure you’re signed in to the same Apple ID you purchased with.
  2. Open Settings → Restore Purchases. This re-applies a previous purchase and never charges you again.
  3. If you just purchased and it still shows locked, give it a moment and reopen the app. The App Store can take a few seconds to confirm.

The purchase button does nothing

This usually means the store could not load the product. Check your internet connection and try again. If it keeps failing, wait a bit and retry, or restart the app.

My progress isn’t on my other device

Loomstone does not use iCloud sync. Settings, statistics, streaks, and any puzzle in progress are stored on the device where you played them and do not travel between devices.

Your purchase is the exception. The Full Loom unlock is tied to your Apple ID, so it applies on any device you sign in to. Use Settings → Restore Purchases if a new device doesn’t pick it up right away.

My streak reset

A daily streak continues only while you complete the daily puzzle on consecutive days. Two things worth knowing:

  • Replaying an old puzzle from the daily archive never touches your live streak, in either direction. It can’t extend a streak and it can’t break one.
  • Because there is no iCloud sync, your streak lives on one device. Playing the daily on a different device starts a separate streak there.

A puzzle I was in the middle of disappeared

An in-progress puzzle is saved automatically and should return via Resume Restoration on the home screen, even after force-quitting.

Ascent runs are the exception: because they are timed, a run is not resumed once you leave it, and there is no mid-run restart.

The animations make me uncomfortable

Turn on Settings → Reduce motion. That disables the tile lift and settle, the completion glow sweep, and the other animation extras. Loomstone also honors your system-wide Reduce Motion setting in iOS Settings → Accessibility → Motion.

You can also lower Glow intensity.

I have trouble telling the thread colors apart

Turn on Settings → Colorblind-friendly palette. It switches the threads to an Okabe-Ito palette chosen to stay distinguishable for the common forms of color vision deficiency. High contrast sharpens the strands against the stone, and it can be used alongside the palette.

How do I reset everything?

  • Statistics: clear them from the statistics screen. This wipes every best time and count, and it cannot be undone.
  • Tutorial: replay it from Settings → Replay tutorial.
  • Everything: delete the app and reinstall. Because nothing syncs to iCloud, this permanently erases your settings, statistics, streaks, and any puzzle in progress. Your Full Loom purchase is unaffected; restore it with Settings → Restore Purchases.

The app crashes or freezes

  1. Force-quit the app and relaunch.
  2. Make sure iOS is up to date.
  3. If it persists, uninstall and reinstall, then restore your purchase.

Feature requests and bugs

Email nospam@edcaspersen.com. Include:

  • What you expected to happen
  • What actually happened
  • Device model and iOS version (iOS Settings → General → About)
  • Which mode, board size, and difficulty you were playing
  • The puzzle’s seed, if you can copy it

Short, specific reports are much easier to act on than vague ones. Screenshots and a screen recording help a lot.
